TXT Record Lookup
Look up the DNS TXT records of a domain or any name under it (_dmarc, a DKIM selector). Every record is shown whole, labelled when it is SPF, DMARC or a verification token.
What the TXT Record Lookup shows
A TXT record holds free text attached to a DNS name. Most of the text published today is machine-read: SPF lists who may send mail for the domain, DMARC (at _dmarc) sets the policy for mail that fails, DKIM (at selector._domainkey) publishes the signing key, and Google, Microsoft, Facebook and others ask you to publish a token to prove you own the domain.
Long values are split into strings of up to 255 characters inside one record. The lookup joins them back, the way mail servers read them, so a 2048-bit DKIM key or a long SPF shows as one value. Each record is labelled when its kind is recognised, and any record can be sent to the DNS Record Explainer for a tag-by-tag breakdown.
Other single-record lookups: CNAME Lookup, A Record Lookup, SRV Lookup, MX Lookup. Paste any record into the DNS Record Explainer for a plain-English breakdown.
Frequently asked questions
How do I look up the TXT records of a domain?
Enter the domain above. The lookup asks public resolvers (Cloudflare 1.1.1.1, Google 8.8.8.8, Quad9) for the TXT records of that exact name and lists every one with its TTL. From a terminal the same answer comes from dig TXT example.com @1.1.1.1 or nslookup -type=TXT example.com.
Why does my DMARC or DKIM record not show on the domain?
They live on their own names, not on the root domain. DMARC is at _dmarc.example.com, DKIM at selector._domainkey.example.com (for Google Workspace the selector is google). Enter that full name above to see the record.
Can a domain have more than one TXT record?
Yes, and most do: SPF, several verification tokens and others side by side. The exception is SPF itself - a name may carry only one v=spf1 record; two SPF records make receivers return a permanent error, so merge them into one.
How long does a new TXT record take to show up?
Usually minutes. A resolver that cached the old answer keeps it until the TTL runs out, and the TTL of the record you replaced is what counts. If a verification fails right after publishing, wait for that TTL and check again here.
What is the maximum length of a TXT record?
Each string is limited to 255 characters, but a record can hold several strings, which are joined without spaces. DNS hosts split long values for you; when pasting a 2048-bit DKIM key by hand, split it into quoted chunks.
